The festival of Onam, symbolizing unity, prosperity, and cultural pride, was celebrated with grandeur and joy on our campus in September 2025. The celebrations were marked by a perfect blend of tradition, enthusiasm, and togetherness, bringing students, staff, and families into one festive spirit.
The Grand Beginning
The day commenced with the majestic arrival of Maveli, escorted in a colorful procession from the Boat Jetty. The sight of Pulikali and Garudan performers, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of Chenda Melam, fireworks, and cheers of the crowd, created a spectacular atmosphere reminiscent of Kerala’s timeless Onam traditions.
The procession concluded at the Main Block, where the Executive Director formally inaugurated the celebrations by lighting the ceremonial lamp. His inspiring Onam Message, along with warm words from the Principal and Dean, highlighted the values of harmony and cultural identity associated with this festival. To mark the moment, a grand flex roll-down with bursting crackers added to the excitement, and the energetic beats of Sinkari Melam led the gathering toward the celebration ground.
Cultural Extravaganza
The morning came alive with Sinkari Melam and a vibrant flash mob, setting the stage for a series of engaging events. Traditional and fun-filled competitions were organized for different groups, ensuring active participation and plenty of cheer:
- For Ladies Staff:
- Lemon & Spoon Race – a true test of balance and focus
- Bomb in the City – an interactive and lively group game
- For Gents Staff:
- Spot the Ball and Out – combining observation and fun
- Bomb in the City – with spirited participation
- For Children:
- Toffee Picking – a delightful favorite among the little ones
- Bun Biting – a game filled with laughter and enthusiasm
- House-Wise Competitions:
- Tug of War (Vadam Vali League) began earlier on 1st September, with the finals held during the celebration. The clash of strength, energy, and teamwork made this event one of the most thrilling highlights of the day.
Recognition & Rewards
The winners of the games and competitions were honored during the Prize Distribution Ceremony. It was a moment of pride and encouragement, reinforcing the spirit of participation and unity that the festival upholds.
A Day to Remember
The celebrations concluded on a high note with the beats of Sinkari Melam, leaving behind cherished memories for all. The Onam 2025 festivities not only showcased the essence of Kerala’s heritage but also strengthened the bond among students, staff, and families. It was a true reflection of unity in diversity, and a reminder that traditions, when celebrated together, create lifelong connections.
